Alfredia McDonald and Fred Meyers
It’s time to go back to school, and there are children all over the United States without enough school supplies. Queensboro’s July 2009 donation recipients live right here in Wilmington, North Carolina. At the request of Wilmington Housing Authority Commissioner Alfredia McDonald, Queensboro donated 200 backpacks for the Back to School Buddy program. On Saturday, Queensboro President Fred Meyers and his wife, along with Kate the Blogger and Claire, the Marketing Coordinator went to see Alfredia and her army of volunteers in action, handing out supplies.

I'm Smart Backpack and Supplies
Fred had Eli design a special “I’m Smart” logo for the bags. (I especially like the brains!) The Elks and others collected school supplies to put in the bags, and additional backpacks for older students.

Volunteers help give out the school supplies.
An army of volunteers kept everything organized, and made sure that as many students as possible received school supplies.

The kids were SO ADORABLE. It was really fun to see and talk to them.

The kids put their backpacks on right away!
Most of the little ones put their backpacks on right away. They are ready for a new year!
